KOTA BARU: A member of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), who was reportedly exhausted from assisting flood victims, fell into floodwaters before being helped by a colleague onto a truck.
In a three-minute and 28-second-long video clip taken on Nov 27, the APM member and his team were seen pushing a boat carrying flood victims towards a temporary evacuation centre.
They were pushing the boat through strong currents when he lost his footing and fell into the water.
His colleague immediately helped him onto the truck waiting nearby.
State APM operations officer Captain Md Fadir Md Nor explained that they had to push the boat because the water level in the area was shallow, preventing the engine from being used.
"The member and his team began their mission to assist flood victims in Pasir Puteh on Nov 26. The rapidly rising water level led to a large number of victims needing assistance.
"Regardless of day or night, the team worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of all victims reaching the PPS."
"While helping the victims to the PPS, the member fell due to exhaustion. He was assisted by his teammates and taken to the truck waiting ahead," he said when contacted.
He added that the member's condition improved after receiving sufficient rest.
