KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman agrees with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's stance that misconduct within the force 'is shown no quarter'.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police leadership will not compromise with any personnel found guilty of misconduct or criminal offences.
"We have constantly reminded our personnel that their actions directly affect the image of the police force.
"We have not and will not hesitate to take stern action against those who tarnish our badge," he told the New Straits Times.
He said one way to ensure that policemen stay on the right track was through Rule 3C of the Public Officers Regulations (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.
"Through this, we take action against those guilty of misconduct and their immediate superiors.
"This ensures that the superiors constantly keep an eye on their subordinates and advise or stop them from committing any form of misconduct," he said.
Razarudin said he whole-heartedly agreed with Anwar's message that the leadership adopt an uncompromising approach to address misconduct.
"We have from time to time shared with the public when our personnel were found guilty of misconduct or offences.
"We will continue to be transparent when it comes to this. We do not condone misconduct," he said.
Yesterday, Anwar said the police's top leadership must adopt an uncompromising approach to addressing misconduct within the force to protect the nation and its people.
He said the police remain the primary pillar of national defence, given their large numbers and influence extending to all levels of society.
He said the role of the force also ensures the nation's strong economic growth and attracts investments.
"We cannot forget their invaluable contributions as they carry out tasks that benefit the nation, working alongside the Fire and Rescue Department, the Armed Forces and other enforcement agencies," he was reported saying.
