KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will remain stable and peaceful because of the inherent nature of its people, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He emphasised that this stability is not due to the current government, but rather the nature of Malaysians who love peace.
"They do not like seeing many problems in the country, so they don't go out to protest like people in other nations.
"Because of that, the country seems stable and peaceful. I also think investors will continue to invest in Malaysia," he told Berita Harian when met at the High Court complex here today.
Asked about his plans for Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis, Dr Mahathir described these four states as the most underdeveloped in the country.
"They are very rich states, but they did not exploit their wealth in the past.
"So my job is to advise them only. I am just an adviser and I do not have executive powers," he said.
"When there is an opportunity to improve the economic performance of these states, I will advise them on the opportunities."
