KUALA LUMPUR: The police raided a BBQ restaurant that was found to be promoting communist culture, using dining equipment featuring images of communist leaders in Bandar Botanic, Klang, Selangor, last night.
The raid was conducted by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department, Klang Selatan district police headquarters, at a restaurant on Jalan Kasuarina 6 at 10 pm last night, following intelligence gathered after a viral video was posted on YouTube.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said immediate action was taken to raid the restaurant after elements promoting communist culture were discovered.
"Initially, we received this information from a YouTube link under the account 'Luiswong90' before conducting further intelligence.
"Following the intelligence gathered, Klang Selatan district police conducted the raid and detained a 20-year-old man who is the restaurant manager.
"In the same raid, the police also seized five white ceramic bowls with Chinese inscriptions and images of Chinese Communist president Mao Zedong and his comrades; ceramic tea cups with Chinese inscriptions and images; ceramic soup spoons with images of Mao Zedong; and a business receipt," he told BH today.
Razarudin said, based on the interrogation of the suspect who has been working since October last year, the dining equipment was purchased by a friend of the restaurant owner who lives in China for use in the restaurant.
"A remand application for the suspect was made at the Klang Magistrate's Court for two days until tomorrow for further investigation, and a license check will be conducted with the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK).
"An investigation on the owner of the 'luiswong90' account will also be conducted with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," he said.
He added that the Royal Malaysia Police is committed to ensuring no one attempts to disrupt national peace and harmony or cause public concern.
