267 flood-affected transmitter stations restored, 56 remain out of service

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 267 transmitter stations affected by floods nationwide have been restored, while 56 remain out of service as of 9am today (Dec 6), Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said.

He added that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) remains on high alert to ensure telecommunications issues are promptly addressed during future incidents, such as floods.

Fahmi added that his deputy, Teo Nie Ching, is on her way to Raub with an MCMC team to assist with post-flood clean-up efforts and resolve telecommunications issues.

"The MCMC continues to monitor the number of towers or transmitter stations affected daily to assess whether they have been restored.

"As of 9am today, a total of 323 communication transmitter stations were impacted across four states namely Kelantan (264), Terengganu (49), Pahang (nine) and one in Johor.

"Of these, 267 have been restored, while 56 remain out of service," he said.

Fahmi added that 91 National Information Distribution Centres (Nadi) were also affected by the floods.

"Of these, 81 have resumed operations, while 10 remain offline," he said after a post-cabinet meeting press conference here today.

Fahmi also said23 temporary relief centres have been equipped with free Wi-Fi.

He said more than 222,000 people have been affected by the recent wave of floods, with over 150,000 evacuated at one time.

It was reported that the number of flood victims in seven states has decreased to 21,039 people from 6,630 families as of 3pm today.
