Fadhlina: Flood-affected students given flexibility to sit for SPM nationwide

KOTA BARU: The 2,000 students who were affected by the flood can sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) at any examination centre throughout the country.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the move was taken to ensure the students can sit for the examination, which begins on Dec 2.

She added the ministry would ensure the 2,000 as well as other SPM candidates in Kelantan and other states affected by the flood could sit for the test.

"So far, I was informed that all the preparations by the state education offices for these students went smoothly despite some of them being affected by the flood.

"These students are given another alternative by the ministry, which is that they can sit for the exam at any centre," she told reporters after visiting flood victims at SK Demit today.

She added a total of 163 schools throughout the country have been affected by the flood. She said a total of 286 schools in the country were turned into flood relief centres.

A total of 402,956 students will sit for the examination, which began from Dec 2 to Feb 6.

More than 3,000 examination centres were opened throughout the country with some 126,636 workers appointed to handle the exam.
