Spurred by sharing tips on TikTok, Mohd Nazrul graduates with agricultural science degree

KUALA LUMPUR: Working in academics and sharing agricultural based tips on TikTok spurred Mohd Nazrul Anis to further his studies and graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The 32-year-old assistant agriculture officer at UPM's Agriculture Faculty said that he was never satisfied with his academic level and had always planned to further his studies.

"I decided to do it not only to add to my qualifications but to strengthen my knowledge and skills, both theoretical and practical.

"My work in the academic field also made me want to be an example to students and fellow colleagues. I'm certain knowledge in the agriculture sector is very wide and there's still a lot that can be explored," he said after attending the 48th UPM convocation here yesterday.

On his efforts to use TikTok to share agriculture-related tips, Mohd Nazrul said he wanted to inspire the younger generation to enter the field that he described as full of innovations and technology.

"Not everyone realises how important agriculture is to our lives, especially with the national food security issue, it now has become a global conversation and will be a problem if not overcome.

"People also need to change their perception about farming being dirty and tiring. With modern technology, agriculture can be something interesting and generate great income, he said, adding that his wife, Noreena Abd Rahman had inspired him to share tips on TIkTok.

He related that it started with his wife wanting to see the collection of photos and videos related to agriculture on his phone.

"She suggested using the photos and videos to make TikTok content, so I tried it out and produced some crop related content to educate the public," he added. – BERNAMA
