KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has made consistent strides in improving graduate employability, with the employment rate reaching 98.5 per cent last year.
This was an improvement from 98.3 per cent in 2022 and 96.2 per cent in 2021, said vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.
He noted that this reflects UMS's commitment to providing education that not only emphasises academic achievement but also fosters essential human skills for everyday life.
He added that the 26th Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Convocation Ceremony is particularly special as it coincides with UMS's 30th-anniversary celebrations.
This year, he said graduates include 119 PhD recipients, 335 Master's degree holders, 124 Postgraduate Diploma holders, 3,862 Bachelor's degree holders, and 53 diploma recipients.
"Among these, 426 graduates achieved first-class honours.
"Congratulations to all graduates, as well as the parents, family members, and friends who supported this journey," he said.
In its three decades of establishment, UMS has produced 91,915 graduates across various fields, who now serve as competent and high-calibre human capital contributing to local, national, and international development.
As a testament to these achievements, he said UMS received the Top Public Higher Education Institution Award at the Talentbank Graduates' Choice Award (GCA) on Nov 27, as well as the Outstanding Huawei ICT Academy Award at the Huawei ICT Competition Awards on Dec 3.
"According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, UMS is now ranked among the top 250 universities in the world (Asia)," Kasim added.
During the fourth session of the convocation yesterday, Kasim conferred degrees to 712 graduates from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting (FPEP) and the Academy of Arts and Creative Technology (ASTiF).
