KUANTAN: The Pahang palace will not be issuing any statements regarding the royal addendum, allegedly from the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, submitted by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and the affidavit from his son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib.
Pahang State Legal Advisor Datuk Seri Saiful Edris Zainuddin said that the decision was made to respect ongoing court proceedings, as commenting on the matter could be seen as subjudice, given that Najib's appeal is scheduled for hearing by the Court of Appeal on Jan 6.
"As the state legal advisor, I had an audience with the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and informed the ruler about the addendum submitted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court and the affidavit.
"Following the advice of the Pahang Menteri Besar, and in respect of the court proceedings, the Pahang palace will not make any statements, as it could potentially affect the ongoing appeal, which is set for hearing on Jan 6, 2025," he said in a statement today.
Last week, Nizar filed an affidavit stating that the Pahang Sultan had informed him about the existence of a royal addendum, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his six-year jail sentence under house arrest.
Yesterday, the Court of Appeal fixed Jan 6 to hear the appeal regarding Najib's house arrest.
The addendum, purportedly issued by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, would see Najib serving the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
