KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in the East Coast and Johor worsened last night as more victims were relocated to Temporary Relief Centres (PPS), while conditions in Perak showed signs of improvement, and the flood in Melaka was fully resolved.
In TERENGGANU, the number of victims increased to 5,198 people from 1,273 families who are in 28 PPS as of 8 pm, compared to 4,904 this afternoon.
The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that Kemaman is the worst-affected district, with 4,850 victims from 1,184 families relocated to 20 PPS. In Dungun, 348 victims from 89 families sought refuge in eight PPS that began operating at 10 am today.
According to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage's Public Info Banjir portal, the Sungai Tebak water level's Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman, exceeded the danger level while the water level of Sungai Dungun in Kuala Jengal, Dungun; Sungai Kemaman at Jambatan Air Putih and Rumah Pam Paya Paman; and Sungai Tumpat at Kampung Baru Kemasik, Kemaman, surpassed the warning level.
In KELANTAN, the number of flood victims increased to 288 people from 71 families who are now sheltering at three PPS in Gua Musang, compared to 180 earlier in the day.
According to the Social Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, the three PPS are Dewan Semai;Bakti Felda Chiku 7, housing 219 people from 54 families; Dewan Orang Ramai Batu 6, sheltering 31 people from eight families; and Sekolah Kebangsaan Limau Kasturi 1, with 38 people from nine families.
In PAHANG, the number of flood victims increased slightly to 160 people from 46 families in six PPS;Maran, up from 150 this afternoon.
In JOHOR, a similar trend was observed, with the number of victims rising slightly to 155 people from 41 families, compared to 150 this afternoon.
State JPBN;chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani in a statement said two PPS in Segamat, Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak and Dewan Komuniti Kampung Tasek, now housed 40 and 45 victims, respectively. Meanwhile, in Tangkak, SK Simpang Lima Darat PPS accommodated 70 victims.
In PERAK, the situation has continued to improve, with only one PPS still operational in Perak Tengah. Dewan Orang Ramai Teluk Kepayang housed 34 victims from 11 families.
The Perak JPBN secretariat said in Kinta, five evacuees from one family who had been staying at SK St. Paul PPS were allowed to return home this evening.
In MELAKA, the flood situation has fully recovered with the last PPS at SK Seri Mendapat in Jasin, which previously housed six victims from two families, officially closed at 5 pm. - BERNAMA
