SEMPORNA: A Chinese tourist was found drowned in the waters off Pulau Mabul here yesterday.
The body of the man believed to be in his 30s, was discovered near the area where he was reported missing, at a depth of 17 meters, following a search operation conducted by the Semporna Marine Police with the assistance of divers from a nearby resort.
Semporna district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sabri Zainol said the victim was found at around 11.35am.
He said police have opened an investigation and classified the case as a sudden death.
"The post-mortem examination will be conducted within 48 hours if no individuals or family members come forward to claim the body," he said in a statement last night.
