376 summonses issued during special integrated operation in Bukit Bintang

KUALA LUMPUR: Police issued 119 summonses against stubborn motorists who obstructed traffic by leaving their vehicles in prohibited areas at Bukit Bintang here during a special operation last night.

This was among 376 issued during a special integrated operation led by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department between 10pm yesterday and 1am today/

The enforcement team also issued 76 summonses for various offences under ' 'Ops Motosikal'.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the "Ops Khas Tindakan Halangan" and "Ops Motosikal" at Bukit Bintang were held for the second consecutive day this week.

"We found that there are still a lot of motorists who remain stubborn and continue to obstruct traffic flow by parking haphazardly around Bukit Bintang despite a similar operation being conducted the previous day.

"Police issued 119 summonses to drivers who blocked traffic paths.

"A total of 76 summonses were issued under "Ops Motosikal" mostly for those riding without a licence, no valid licence, no side mirror, no registration plate number and registration plate numbers which did not follow the specification.

"During the joint operation, the Road Transport Department (RTD) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued 60 and 121 summonses respectively against traffic offenders while six unattended vehicles were towed away, with four removed by DBKL and two by the police," he said in a statement today.

Azry Akmar said the operation which involved 12 officers and 79 policemen from the police, RTD and DBKL focused on Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Ceylon, Jalan Changkat, Jalan Berangan, Jalan Walter Granier and Jalan Tengkat Tungshin.

He advised the public to adhere to the traffic rules especially while around the Bukit Bintang area as their action had often resulted in major traffic congestion at the respective site during the weekends.

"Similar integrated operations will be held every week at Bukit Bintang to ensure drivers and motorcyclists follow the rules," he said.

On Dec 14, a total of 466 summonses were issued during a similar operation targeting traffic obstruction and illegal motorcycle modifications in the Bukit Bintang area which saw 15 vehicles towed away.
