KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been named the safest country to visit in Asia and the top destination on the continent for peace and quiet.
Travel + Leisure, a global travel magazine, reported the findings from the 'Holiday Relaxation Report' published by wellness retreat platform Book Retreats.
The report identified the best destinations worldwide for travellers seeking peace and quiet during their holidays.
"To figure out its formal rankings, the team first created a seed list of 76 destinations, which they selected based on their 'safety, solitude, serenity, nature, and wellness'.
"They then ranked those selections via nine data points, including the percentage of protected area, forest coverage, crowd density, noise and light pollution, peacefulness, and total wellness experiences. It then gave each destination a score of 1 and 100 to reveal its top picks.
"After examining all the data, it named Malaysia the best spot in Asia for peace, quiet, and, perhaps most importantly, safety."
The report also ranked Malaysia 20th on the overall list of best destinations for quiet, highlighting the country's peacefulness, abundance of outdoor spaces, wellness activities, and biodiversity.
"Malaysia also came in eighth place for the Best Holiday Destinations for Safety thanks to its high ranking in the Global Peace Index."
Book Retreats also named Australia its top global destination for peace and quiet, with Canada, Iceland, Finland and New Zealand, rounding out the top five.
