ALOR STAR: Malaysia's recognition as the safest and most peaceful travel destination in Asia by global travel magazine Travel + Leisure is set to boost the domestic tourism sector, attracting more travellers to the country.
State Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin hailed the accolade as a significant boost for the Visit Kedah 2025 (VK2025) campaign.
"This is a remarkable achievement for the nation and a source of pride for all Malaysians.
"This recognition will have a positive impact on the tourism sector, both at the national level and for Kedah," he said after launching the state-level "Gotong-Royong Perdana" programme in Kuala Kedah today.
Also present was State Secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali.
The programme, which was held simultaneously across all 36 constituencies statewide, is part of the VK2025 preparations.
Salleh, who is also the Kubang Rotan assemblyman, expressed gratitude to the Tourism Ministry for approving an additional RM1 million to enhance Kedah's tourism promotions.
"As announced in the recent Kedah Budget 2025, we have received RM3 million to support VK2025 promotions and events. InsyaAllah, we will use this allocation wisely to ensure the success of all our plans," he said.
"Additionally, the Tourism Ministry has approved my request for an extra RM1 million to amplify promotional activities. I thank the federal government for this vital support."
Travel + Leisure named Malaysia Asia's safest travel destination and the top choice for peace and quiet, based on the Holiday Relaxation Report by wellness retreat platform Book Retreats.
The report ranked Malaysia 20th overall for its quiet, peaceful atmosphere, abundant outdoor spaces, wellness activities, and rich biodiversity. https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/12/1150098/malaysia-named-safest...)
Kedah, particularly Langkawi, continues to stand out as a major tourist destination, offering a wide range of activities and amenities, including an international airport that supports its thriving tourism industry.
Salleh said that preparations were well underway for next year's events aimed at attracting more tourists to Kedah.
While Langkawi remains a premier destination, the state government is focusing more on mainland Kedah.
"We are undertaking various initiatives, including improving tourism products. We are working on revitalising Kedah's tourism sector to create a fresh start.
"This reflects our commitment to making mainland Kedah a key tourist attraction in the coming year," he said.
