KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) has taken disciplinary action by suspending a lecturer allegedly involved in sending inappropriate sexual messages.
In a statement, the university said the suspension was enforced under the Statutory Bodies (Discipline and Surcharge) Act 2000 [Act 605].
"Universiti Malaya will continue to ensure that its campus environment remains safe and conducive, including taking firm action against any party involved in misconduct, regardless of position or status," it said.
On Saturday, the Higher Education Ministry said the Integrity Unit of Universiti Malaya was actively investigating a sexual harassment case allegedly involving one of its lecturers.
It said that the university was adhering to all relevant procedures and regulations in addressing the matter.
The ministry also stated that the individual linked to the allegation has filed a police report and the authorities are conducting their own investigation.
