PARIT: A seven-year-old boy was found drowned in a canal at Parit 4, believed to have occurred while he was playing with his friends yesterday.
The body of Muhammad Ammar Razif, a Year One pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Gajah, was discovered by the public about 30 metres from the canal's edge.
Perak Tengah district police chief, Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, said his team was notified about the incident at 5.45pm.
"A medical assistant at the Bota Kiri Health Clinic confirmed that the victim had passed away," he said.
A post-mortem conducted at Seri Iskandar Hospital this morning determined that the cause of death was "pulmonary oedema consistent with drowning".
With the Northeast Monsoon season expected to continue until the end of March 2025, Hafezul advised parents to closely monitor their children and prevent them from swimming in rivers and canals without supervision due to the risk of strong currents.
