Two children of Ayer Keroh accident victims stable, to undergo surgery

MELAKA: Two siblings, whose parents were among seven people who died in a tragic accident at KM204 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, near Alor Gajah, Melaka, are required to undergo surgery.

The youngest of the two siblings, four-year-old Nur Sofea Humaira Khairul Ikhwan, who suffered a fractured left thigh, successfully underwent surgery this morning.

Her brother, seven-year-old Muhammad Uwais Al-Qarni, sustained a fractured right femur and remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with surgery scheduled to take place later today.

State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said both children of the late Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi and Fadzlenna Ramli, both aged 32, are currently in stable condition.

"Muhammad Uwais suffered severe injuries to his right thigh, with a broken femur, but surgery for the boy will be conducted today," he said when met after visiting the injured victims at Melaka Hospital earlier today.

Ngwe was also informed by the victims' family members that the two siblings are not yet aware of the deaths of their parents, as well as their grandparents.

Meanwhile, he added that all injured passengers from the Singaporean bus who were treated at Melaka Hospital and a private hospital have been discharged.

"In addition, the 27-year-old trailer driver, who is in critical condition, remains in the ICU under medical supervision. However, any surgical procedure for him will depend on his health condition," he said.
