KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences following the tragic plane crash at Muan Airport in South Korea.

"My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking tragedy," he said in his Facebook post today.

He also extended Malaysia's support to the people of South Korea and Thailand during this difficult time.

"Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of South Korea and Thailand. We offer our deepest condolences to all those affected.

"At a time when many of us are reflecting on the year with loved ones, this devastating loss reminds us how precious and fragile life is. Let us take a moment to cherish those around us."

Earlier reports confirmed that 62 people were killed when a Jeju Air plane crashed during its landing in South Korea, according to the country's fire agency on Sunday.

Dramatic footage showed the aircraft bursting into flames after the crash.

The national fire agency said that two people, one crew member and one passenger, were rescued from the wreckage as part of the ongoing rescue efforts.

However, no Malaysians were aboard the plane.
