PEKAN: A 30-year-old assistant medical officer was killed, and seven others sustained injuries in a collision involving two vehicles during rainy weather at Km37 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near here yesterday.
Nur Ezyyantie Aliakbar, who was attached to the Temai Health Clinic here, died on the spot in the 8.15pm accident.
Her two daughters and 32-year-old husband are receiving treatment in the red zone at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the accident involved a sports utility vehicle(SUV) travelling from Kuantan to Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan and Nur Ezyyantie's car was heading to Kuantan from Segamat, Johor.
He said investigations showed the 50-year-old driver of the SUV is believed to have lost control of his vehicle before it veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming car driven by Nur Ezyyantie's husband.
"The SUV driver was travelling with his wife and two sons, aged 17 and 12.
"One of the son's suffered injuries to his legs and neck while three others including the driver escaped with minor injuries.
"Nur Ezyyantie died at the scene due to severe injuries while the seven other victims were taken to HTAA," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zaid said Nur Ezyyantie's two-year-old daughter, who was also in the front seat, suffered injuries to her legs while her husband sustained injuries to his chest, hands and legs.
He also said that Nur Ezyyantie's 12-year-old daughter who was in the Myvi's rear passenger seat has been placed under observation at HTAA's red zone.
Zaidi said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
