One killed, two injured in accident at Tanjung Aru

KOTA KINABALU: One person died while two others were injured following an accident under the elevated road on Jalan Mat Salleh, Tanjung Aru, tonight.

The driver, Armada Said, 56, was found trapped in his Proton Iswara Aeroback and was unconscious before being pronounced dead by Ministry of Health (KKM) medical personnel shortly thereafter.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre officer, Assistant Fire Chief Riki Mohan Singh Ramday, said they received an emergency call at 7:08pm and dispatched nine personnel to the scene, located two kilometres from the fire station.

"Upon arrival, we discovered a road traffic accident involving a Proton Iswara Aeroback and a Perodua Viva.

"Three victims were successfully extricated by the fire rescue team," he said.

Riki Mohan said that a 26-year-old man in the Perodua Viva was injured and was taken to the hospital by bystanders.

"Two victims were in the Proton Iswara Aeroback, including the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene by KKM personnel.

"The body was then handed over to the police for further action, while the injured victims were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE I) for further treatment," he said.
