Two Singaporeans found safe after getting lost in Langkawi mountain

LANGKAWI: Two Singaporean men reported missing during a hike at Gunung Mat Cincang here yesterday have been rescued in the wee hours today.

The hikers, Wang Cheng Kang, 23, and Li Shuen Qi, 25, were found safe and unharmed.

Padang Mat Sirat fire and rescue station chief Mohammad Zaidi Md Lazim said a team was deployed after receiving a distress call at 10.28pm.

"Upon arrival at the scene, we were informed by auxiliary police stationed in the area that two Singaporean hikers had gone missing on the mountain while hiking since noon," he said in a statement.

Zaidi said the rescue team began their ascent to the hikers' last known location before tracking and finding them at the summit of the mountain at 2.48am.

"The team then safely escorted the hikers down the mountain, reaching the base at 4.36am," he added.
