Kelantan, Terengganu see fewer evacuees as flood situation improves

KOTA BARU: The floods that hit the east coast states for another round are showing signs of improvement as Kelantan and Terengganu report a drop in the number of evacuees.

According to the Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, the number of flood evacuees in Kelantan dropped to 476 this morning compared to 623 yesterday.

The evacuees, from 135 families, are seeking shelter at seven relief centres across the state.

Checks also showed that the water level at Sungai Golok has reached 10.4m, which is 1.9m above the danger mark.

In Terengganu, Besut remains the only district affected by the recent wet spell.

As of this morning, 44 people are still seeking shelter at two flood evacuation centres in the district.

Terengganu Natural Disaster Management Committee secretariat said Hulu Terengganu has fully recovered from the floods, with all 12 relief centres in the district now closed.
