KANGAR: Perlis police are set to make 2025 a transformative year, focusing on upgrading assets and facilities across the state, starting with the construction of a new Padang Besar district police headquarters.
State police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said groundbreaking for the new district headquarters would begin soon, with efforts focused on improving operational infrastructure and the welfare of officers and personnel.
"We cannot solely focus on policing duties. It is equally important to consider the working conditions of our officers and staff," he said today.
"Many police quarters in Perlis are outdated, with issues such as leaking roofs and blocked toilets. These conditions are both unsafe and uncomfortable for our officers and their families.
"We aim to secure the necessary funding to address these problems. On average, the Perlis police headquarters requires an annual budget of RM20 million to support development and operations effectively."
He stressed the need to ensure the 1,600 police officers and personnel in the state enjoy living conditions comparable to those of their counterparts elsewhere.
He added that Perlis police have identified a new site for the Arau district police headquarters, as the current facility no longer meets the needs of the royal capital's rapid development.
"In addition, we plan to expand police quarters across the state to improve comfort for our officers and personnel.
"We have also requested support from the Bukit Aman Logistics Department to upgrade older police stations. This includes improving working conditions and revitalising outdated facilities."
