KUALA LUMPUR: The deaths of four people after attending a New Year's Eve concert here was not the first incident of its kind.
The last time it happened was in 2014. Six people, aged between 19 and 28, were rushed to the hospital after losing consciousness at the Future Music Festival Asia concert at the Bukit Jalil Stadium on March 15, 2014.
They were pronounced dead en route to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM).
Police also arrested 19 patrons, including seven locals and 12 foreigners from Singapore, Australia, and Indonesia, for drug possession.
Organisers cancelled the third day of performances on the advice of local authorities. Acts like Rudimental, Eric Prydz and Pharrell had been scheduled to perform.
Initial reports attributed the six deaths to a drug overdose. However, a post-mortem report issued two months after the deaths revealed that the cause was due to heatstroke, with drugs playing a negligible role.
In the latest incident, Selangor police reported that four Malaysians who attended a concert in Bandar Sunway in Subang Jaya on New Year's Eve died after the performance.
Police reports involving all the victims, including two women aged between 20 and 40, were lodged by the UMMC.
However, details were not available at presstime.
Post-mortem examinations were conducted yesterday, but the cause of death has not been determined, pending laboratory investigation.
