SHAH ALAM: Puspakom has submitted its findings on the Dec 23 incident in Ayer Keroh, Melaka where a detached tyre from a lorry led to an accident which claimed seven lives.
Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman said the report, submitted to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) today, only covered its inspection of the lorry, and not the detached tyre.
This he said, was because the tyre was not handed to Puspakom for inspection.
"Puspakom has finalised its investigation report and submitted the findings to Miros today for further action.
"However, the report is incomplete as it only covers the inspection of the vehicle.
"The detached tyre could not be examined since it was not given to us," he said at a press conference at Shah Alam Puspakom at Section 28, here today.
In a statement yesterday, Puspakom said the lorry involved in the accident, which claimed seven lives, is suspected to have lost its tyre due to damage at the end of the stub axle, which broke off the front axle of the wheel.
The agency said this was discovered following an inspection of the Foton-branded lorry.
Puspakom said the vehicle was manufactured in 2023 and underwent its initial inspection at Puspakom on March 28. Its next inspection was scheduled for March 28 2025.
On Dec 23 last year, a five-vehicle accident occurred at KM204 of the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh.
The accident involved a tourist bus carrying 27 passengers, two lorries, a car, and an SUV.
Seven people, including a family of five, were killed, while 33 others were injured.
Initial investigation revealed that the tourist bus had collided with a detached tyre from a lorry in the middle lane, causing the bus to lose control, swerve into oncoming traffic and collide with three other vehicles.
