KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is ready to serve as a mediator to ease tensions between Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng.
Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, said the differences between the two leaders will not affect the cooperation among the political coalitions within the unity government.
"We will calm things down. The issue between Lim and Zahid… we will ease it. If it's just a little (Lim making sensitive statements), there's no problem (with him) making a statement," he told reporters today.
Earlier, Anwar accompanied by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif visited the Lestari Niaga Madani @ Wirawati here today.
Yesterday, Zahid, who is also Umno president, urged Lim not to undermine unity government parties with his remarks about a rally supporting former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Zahid said Lim's time had passed and he should trust the current DAP leadership instead of "disturbing" or undermining any of the partners in the unity government.
Lim, in his criticism of Umno over the rally with Pas, had reportedly said that it would raise doubts about BN's sincerity as a partner in the unity government led by Anwar.
Umno and Pas members are expected to attend a rally in support of Najib on Monday as the Court of Appeal hears the former Umno president's application on an alleged royal addendum order.
Najib, 71, has been imprisoned since Aug 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
On the rally, set to take place at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, Anwar said PH will not be involved in the rally.
"What's happening this Monday? (Regarding) this Monday, you have to ask BN chairman (Zahid) as PH is not involved," he said in response to a question on the proposed rally in support of Najib and PH's stance on the matter.
Meanwhile, Anwar has called all parties to understand and respect the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and reminded Najib to submit a new application to the Pardons Board.
"The decree must be read, understood and accepted... (The decree) must be read," he said.
During his visit to the Desa Rejang Public Housing project here, the Prime Minister also inspected the ongoing lift issues at the flats which have affected the wellbeing of the residents.
