Reveal report on UM cat deaths, DVS told

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) should release the technical post-mortem report on the cat carcasses confirmed to have died due to animal attacks at Universiti Malaya (UM).

Animal crime analyst Arie Dwi Andika, speaking to Buletin Utama, said the explanation is crucial to addressing allegations against the authorities and university management.

"Therefore, I urge the DVS to transparently and courageously disclose the investigation findings so independent entities, such as private veterinarians and other experts, can evaluate them.

"I believe this would provide better clarity for the public," he said.

He said the report could also serve as a reference for future cases of a similar nature.

Yesterday, City Deputy Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said post-mortems on four cat carcasses found at the university revealed no evidence of foul play.

The carcasses, discovered on Dec 17, 20, and 25, were examined by the Veterinary Services Department, which confirmed the findings.

He said the first two carcasses, found on Dec 17, bore animal bite marks, while the other two had severe chest injuries that caused blood loss, leading to circulatory system failure.

The carcass discovered on Dec 20 had uneven lacerations on three of its legs, which were not caused by any sharp object.

Meanwhile, the carcass found on Dec 25 had injuries to its left ribs and tears to the heart, believed to be caused by broken ribs.

The carcass also had three lacerations of varying severity to the stomach.

The circulation of carcass images on social media sparked public concern, prompting widespread calls for a thorough investigation.
