KUALA LUMPUR: A well-known drama and film director lost over RM8,000 after falling victim to a non-existent loan scam via Facebook.
According to sources, the director, in his 50s, first encountered the loan offer around July last year and decided to fill in his details through the link provided.
"He was then contacted by a man who claimed to be an agent and explained the loan details, saying that a management fee would be charged."
"The victim then met the agent in Rawang, who claimed that the loan was approved but a processing payment was required."
The victim made several payments amounting to more than RM8,000.
However, he realised he had been deceived when the loan amount was never received, and the suspect also demanded a penalty fee if the loan was to be cancelled.
The director filed a police report on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf confirmed receiving the victim's report, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
