LIPIS: An Orang Asli youth, who was gored to death by a wild boar during a hunting trip at the Lombong Selinsing in Sungai Koyan here on Jan 8, had earlier climbed an oil palm tree in the plantation to flee from the animal.
However, Johan Yok Boi, 24, accidentally slipped and fell to the ground before he was attacked by the wild boar in the 1pm incident yesterday.
Johan, from Pos Sinderut near here, was hunting with four friends when the incident happened. Prior to that, Johan, along with his friends, had entered the oil palm plantation at about 10am to hunt for wild boars.
His friend, Rasil Yok Len, 32, said they had spotted a wild boar roaming in the plantation and tried to get close to the animal before Johan threw his spear at it but missed.
"The animal appeared shocked and charged towards Johan. He managed to climb a nearby oil palm tree to escape but slipped and fell to the ground before the animal repeatedly attacked him.
"The four of us ran towards Johan and tried to pull him away. The animal appeared aggressive, forcing us to kill it before rescuing Johan. The wild boar's tusk had caused Johan to suffer serious injuries to his thigh," he said.
Rasil said they took Johan to the Sungai Koyan health clinic before he was transferred to the Kuala Lipis Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5.55pm.
Meanwhile, Lipis police chief, Superintendent Ismail Man, said the police obtained a statement from his friend who had joined the hunting trip to get an accurate picture of the incident, and the case has been classified as a sudden death due to an animal attack.
