MUAR: The life of Amiruddin Osman has drastically changed after being rammed by a wild boar 12 years ago, causing him to lose his left arm.
The incident happened when the 46-year-old, now classified as a person with disabilities (PWD), was working as a contractor at a school near Jalan Dato Bentara Luar, here.
With his wife, Nor Aini Muharam, 47, being visually impaired, Amiruddin's only sources of income are from collecting scrap metal and cardboard, and a monthly assistance of RM300 from the Welfare Department.
Speaking about the Dec 5, 2012 tragedy, Amiruddin said he was watering the plants at the school when the incident happened.
"I was doing my routine work, including watering the plants, when suddenly, a wild boar came from behind and rammed into me.
"My left arm was struck by the boar's charge, causing blood to pour out uncontrollably. I was taken to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed that my left hand had to be amputated due to numerous severed nerves."
He said he spent two weeks in the hospital to be treated after the incident.
Amiruddin said although it happened long ago, he found it difficult to forget the incident that changed his life forever,=.
However, he said he was still thankful that he was being given the chance to continue his life with his wife.
"Everyday I cycle around Muar town to find things that I can sell as a source of income.
"I am thankful that there are people who want to help by sponsoring an electric motorcycle, thus making it easier for us to move around," he said.
The couple's plight caught the attention of Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd who contributed the electric motorcycle to them.
Econsave Haji Jaib branch manager Nor Rafidah Talib said the company felt moved to make the contribution after Amiruddin's life story went viral on social media.
