KUALA LUMPUR: A video of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living deputy minister Fuziah Salleh buying household groceries with a RM200 budget has drawn criticism from netizens.
In the one minute 36 second video, the deputy minister was seen buying groceries such as biscuits, instant noodles, sardines, flour and cooking oil.
"I bought two packs of biscuits, a 850 gram Milo pack, two packs of instant noodles, two cans of sardines, two packs of flour, a bottle of cooking oil, a bag of rice, chicken, condensed milk and several vegetables.
"All of these items cost me RM136.30, who said that RM200 is not enough?" she said.
Her video however was not received well by social media users, who said the items purchased did not reflect the actual consumption of a household.
One user Mohd Arif commented that the amount of items she bought could only last for a weekend camping trip.
Another user, Eda Ramli lambasted the deputy minister by saying that the amount only feeds one person and not the whole family.
"(That amount) can only feed your own tummy. Try living in a home where there are a lot of children and other siblings.
"Try and put yourself in their shoes," she said.
Meanwhile user Mouhamad Fatrim Novelis also echoed the same viewpoint, saying that it could only feed one person.
"You can only feed yourself (with that amount). This is the typical amount I spent when I was living alone."
