KUALA LUMPUR: Penampang district police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton rescued a senior citizen who was trapped in a vehicle that was stranded in floodwaters in Jalan Kasigui.

In a 35-second video clip posted on the district police's Facebook page, Sammy and members of the Penampang Flood Operation Task Force were seen wading through floodwaters to reach the elderly woman in distress.

Sammy and the team carefully supported the elderly woman and provided her with a lifeline.

It was reported that the number of flood victims in Penampang had risen to 112 people from 40 families this morning, compared with 78 people from 28 families last night.

The Secretariat of the Sabah Disaster Management Committee said all the flood victims were being housed at the Penampang Cultural Centre, which was opened as a temporary flood relief centre yesterday.

In Putatan, two victims from two families were evacuated to the Dewan Sri Putatan temporary flood relief centre at 1am earlier today.
