KUALA LUMPUR: A canteen operator has taken to social media to express dissatisfaction with teachers selling various food and drinks at a school cooperative.
Through a 43-second video shared across all social media platforms including TikTok and Facebook, the canteen operator showed teachers, along with several students selling various food at the school cooperative, including nasi lemak, chicken rice, fried bihun and other snacks such as steamed bun, sausage buns and fish chips and crackers.
It is believed that the situation has occurred several times at the school.
However, the exact date and location of the school could not be ascertained.
"I kept quiet not because I didn't (mind), but because I don't want to argue with you (teachers).
"However, you (the teachers) continue to do this. Have you guys (referring to the teachers and students) received the necessary vaccination (to handle food)?" said the canteen operator.
A person, believed to be one of the teachers there, had explained that the food was being sold in conjunction with the school's sports day.
The canteen operator, however, refuted this, claiming that she saw the sales being made every day.
"No, every day I come to see you (selling the food)," said the canteen operator, adding that the existence of a circular states that school teachers are not allowed to conduct business during school hours.
According to a circular issued by the Education Ministry, there shall be no selling of unhealthy snacks or junk food, processed food such as sausages, as well as mee and porridge, among other things.
The New Straits Times has reached out to the ministry for comment on the matter.
