KUALA LUMPUR: Have you ever seen a two-door sports car converted into a commercial taxi?
A netizen recently spotted a Ford Mustang V8 engine painted in bright red and white, with all the accessories fitting the likes of a commercial taxi used for ferrying passengers, believed to be in Johor.
In the video posted by edryie.tasha on social media, the car which looked relatively new, with a Johor registration number, was seen stopping at a traffic light, catching the attention of other motorists.
The post which has been viewed and liked more than 17,000 times also received mixed reactions from netizens, some who complimented the idea, while others doubted the legitimacy of the so-called commercial e-hailing status of the sports car.
One comment from a Facebook user Mohd Firdaus actually praised the owner of the Ford Mustang for converting the sports car into a commercial vehicle because he could save a lot on the toll, could stop by the side of the road, receive special rebates as e-hailing driver and gets to keep his health in check via the compulsory medical check-up.
Mohd Firdaus said the only setback perhaps the owner would have is having to send the car for Puspakom inspection every six months.
"But that too is not a big deal, if you have a runner to get it sorted," he said.
Mohamad Nasir Ahmad wrote he had planned to do the same for a long time, especially when he wished to return to his hometown as he would only have to pay toll fares for taxi.
One Mohd Fauzi Zakaria Tan commented that the owner of the Ford Mustang would only need to pay RM10 for his roadtax, if indeed it was registered as a commercial taxi.
Checks on the Internet showed that the car's retail price would cost between RM430,000 and RM570,000 depending on the variant.
