KUALA LUMPUR: A TikTok video has emerged showing elephants appearing to conduct "quality control" on fences associated with the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
Uploaded by user @mr_chezz91, the video features two riders on elephants roaming around a fenced area. One elephant is then seen easily toppling a pillar.
A source close to the project confirmed that the exercise is part of ECRL's wildlife conflict management efforts.
The aim is to test the barrier's effectiveness in keeping elephants out of designated areas, as their presence could disrupt the project's alignment.
The video has gained over 140,000 views, with many netizens finding humour in the elephants, whom they described as diligent workers. Some questioned whether the fence design would hold up against fully grown elephants.
"Elephants are now working with ECRL? How much is their basic (salary)?" user @ayietruck06 asked.
"Now this is a real product review with 'real' customer," says user @mafsatransliner.
"Quality control using 'original' elephants. Only used its trunk and already knocked down (the fence). Haven't even used its legs yet," @Farid85 said.
