#NSTviral: Youths' touching Deepavali gesture brings joy to family [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens had nothing but praise for a group of youngsters who were determined to make a family's Deepavali wishes come through.

The group did everything in their power to make sure the family had a memorable celebration.

The journey, chronicled on video from the very start, was recently uploaded on TikTok and garnered tens of thousands of views.

At the start of the video, the sole breadwinner of the family from Puchong, Krishnamoorthy, shares his story to one of the group members.

He talks of how, when his wife passed away, his life spirals downwards.

Krishnamoorthy said, for a week, he was totally aimless, before he realised that he had to do something about it, as his four children's well-being now depended solely on him.

He learned how to cook and took the role of being the mother as well as the father in the family.

The video shows the group of youngsters making up a story about visiting a temple a day before Deepavali to convince the family to express their wishes to a deity.

What the family did not know is that the group had created a replica of a statue of the deity and placed a microphone in it to hear each of the four children's wishes.

Later, as the family was busy praying at the temple, the group members somehow got a hold of Krishnamoorthy's house keys.

In the video, the group is seen at the family's flat, where they clean and decorate the unit ahead of the celebration.

All this is recorded and the group has very limited time to shop and fulfil the four children's wishes by the time they finish the prayers at the temple.

The team somehow pull it off and manage to return the house keys to Krishnamoorthy in time, before the family leaves the temple.

Sadly, one of the wishes whispered to the deity by the youngest daughter was to have her mother back, something that the group obviously could not do.

The team, however, drew a family portrait which included the late mother.

When they return from the temple, Krishnamoorthy and his four children looked shell-shocked as they see a beautifully-decorated flat and a beautiful portrait together with the children's late mother.

The video, posted on user Nareshbabu's TikTok account on Deepavali day, had been liked by over 70,000 viewers and commented on by over 5,200 netizens.

Most of the comments said the group's effort and deed in the video was not only commendable, but was touching and heartwarming.

The video has been shared by over 11,000 viewers.
