#NSTviral: Postman's 14-year quest to become a civil servant warms hearts online [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A wife recounting her husband's inspiring 14-year journey to becoming a civil servant, has touched the hearts of netizens online.

According to captions on a video by user Fiza on the social media site TikTok, her husband, who had been working as a postman for Pos Malaysia for 14 years, harboured dreams of joining the civil service since his early 20s.

Despite passing rigorous exams and interviews under the Public Service Commission, his applications were repeatedly unsuccessful.

Yet, he never gave up and continued to apply year after year.

"Then, a miracle happened," Fiza recounted.

At the age of 37, when she was four months pregnant with their son, Alam, her husband was finally offered a position in the Defence Ministry in November 2021.

"Semua rezeki Alam (It's all Alam's blessing)," she said, attributing their good fortune to their unborn child.

The heartwarming story of perseverance has touched the hearts of netizens, including those who have yet to have their own luck turn, in more ways than one.

"I am also a postman. I am still waiting to see if my application to join the Sarawak civil service is accepted. The interview was in August. I hope there will be sustenance (Semoga ada rezeki)," said user Mohd Syafiq.

"My husband also got to join the civil service after 13 years (of applying). The difference is that you were granted a child, while I have not. Pray for me," said another user.

"Congratulations. My husband was also a postman with Pos Malaysia for 10 years. He is still in the courier industry today. Maybe that is what Allah has set for him," said user CikYus.

While others shared their own, similar joy.

"This is like my brother. He was a postman for eight years, then he had a baby. The baby was four months old when he got a government job at 32," said user dbs.

"My husband, after passing his exam, took his interview very seriously. He would stand in front of the mirror every day (to rehearse). Now, he has been a civil servant for 4 years," said user @dysun.shine.

User Ms Madiha meanwhile expressed a sentiment and reminder applicable to all civil servants, new and old alike.

"I am very relieved when someone who truly wants to become a civil servant succeeds. Do your job as best you can. Many have been civil servants for a long time but are ungrateful for the job"
