KUALA LUMPUR: Crash survivor Mohd Syafique's life changed forever on a day when a devastating road accident turned his world upside down.
A dedicated worker from the Sungai Besi Delivery Branch, Syafique's story goes beyond personal tragedy, serving as a powerful reminder of the critical importance of road safety.
"My leg was destroyed. It was either losing my leg or losing my life," he said.
Syafique who is popularly known as "Pos Wira", was told that his leg needed to be amputated, and that it would affect the rest of his life.
This painful, heart-wrenching narrative is part of a groundbreaking collaboration between the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Vital Strategies, and Pos Malaysia—a unified effort to tackle the epidemic of road accidents.
In Malaysia, over 6,000 lives are lost annually due to speeding, leaving behind a trail of broken families and shattered hopes.
On the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, Syafique's story serves as a stark reminder of life's fragility.
He warns all motorists that a moment of carelessness can ruin lives forever, urging every driver to follow every traffic rule to save a life—whether their own or someone else's.
"If he had followed the rules, maybe I could have gone for a swim again," Syafique added.
