KUALA LUMPUR: A heartwarming encounter at a small mobile phone shop has moved thousands online after a shop owner refused to accept an elderly man's phone for sale and instead offered him money for medical treatment.
In posts shared on X and TikTok, an elderly man with a visible limp was seen entering the store, believed to be located in Batu Pahat, Johor.
The posts, which included CCTV footage, showed the man attempting to sell his phone to raise immediate funds to treat a severe wound on his leg caused by diabetes.
Moved by the man's plight, the shop owner declined the transaction and instead donated money to help cover his medical expenses.
When the shop owner offered the man money instead of taking the phone, the elderly man initially refused, insisting he didn't want charity.
However, the shop owner stood firm, urging the man to accept the money as a gesture of goodwill. Overcome with emotion, the elderly man eventually relented, breaking into tears as he thanked the shop owner.
In the CCTV footage, the shop owner can be heard encouraging the man to contact him if he ever faced further difficulties, offering ongoing support and reassurance.
"Don't sell your phone. I will give you the money you need for your treatment. Take really good care of yourself," the shop owner told the man.
The kind gesture has since captured widespread attention, with many praising the shop owner for his compassion and humanity.
"Humanity at its best, without prejudice of race or religion," said one social media user.
"Moments like this make me proud to be Malaysian," added another.
Many noted that this small yet profound act of kindness is a powerful reminder of the impact simple generosity can have on those in need.
