#NSTviral: Massive jam in Genting Highlands as holidaymakers leave after CNY [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A viral TikTok video showing a long, barely-moving traffic jam snaking down Genting Highlands has sparked heated debate among social media users about travelling during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays.

The video, posted by user Shah. Grenco, captures the duality of the lush, misty hillside and endless cars at a standstill, with the simple caption: "CNY."

Many users took to the comments to share their thoughts on the annual phenomenon.

@chowcheeleong summed up the sentiment of many, saying, "Public holidays and other general holidays, just stay at home."

User JRCounsel78 echoed this, adding, "I used to like going, but now I can't anymore because it's always jammed."

Some insisted that the trip was not worth the hassle, with Max commenting, "Going there is terribly jammed, (it is) better to stay home, eat, and rest."

Others, like @ameruddin__98, had a different experience: "Just got back earlier, it was fine, no traffic jam like this."

For some, the congestion poses more than just an inconvenience.

User EliSion joked about the struggle of driving a manual car in bumper-to-bumper traffic: "If I drive my manual Saga up there like this, my feet would get gout."

While users clarified that the worst was over, for those planning a trip soon, the video was a cause for concern.

Nieta admitted, "Planning to go next week, but seeing this is already terrifying."

Meanwhile, airis wondered if conditions would improve, asking, "Oh no. Do you think it will still be jammed in the next two or three days?"

Users also highlighted why many avoid popular highlands destinations during peak seasons, bringing up Genting's vacation cousin, Cameron Highlands.

ZUL JOI 2246 remarked, "That's why I avoid going to Cameron Highlands or Genting Highlands during public holidays. This is exactly what happens, haha."

Not everyone was deterred by the chaos, as user Fadhli found a silver lining, saying, "It's fun, not boring when going down with a big group."

User Mr.Nobody shared his strategy for avoiding the worst of the congestion: "I went up on the first day of CNY, on Wednesday. Went up early in the morning, no jam at all, it was great, haha. Came down around 2pm, and the traffic started building up from the roundabout at RnR Genting Sempah."
