KUALA LUMPUR: At the Umno 71st anniversary celebrations at Stadium Bukit Jalil which has drawn thousands of supporters from all walks of life, Ken Chow and his 73-year-old mother Lee Yoke Hua stood out among the crowd.
Chow came to lend support to his Malay friends who are Umno members from the Sungai Besar division in Selangor.
Lee had decided to join her son as she was eager to experience the atmosphere.
“We didn’t feel out of place at all, even though there are hardly any Chinese folks around, as we are all Malaysians.
“It’s always good to mingle around and get to know other fellow Malaysians,” said Chow, 43.
Chow had invited his family and friends to join as well, but they were unable to make it due to a busy schedule.
Lee conceded that it was tiring for her as they had been at the venue since 10am.
“At least I get to talk with other elderly people, many of whom had been waiting here the whole day for the event to start,” said Lee.
