KUALA LUMPUR: FAM is singing the same old tune - the pitch at the National Stadium is far from perfect.
After seeing its unsatisfactory condition during Saturday's FA Cup final, FAM is concerned whether the much maligned pitch will be in good shape to host the Merdeka Tournament next month.
FAM local competitions organising committee chairman Firdaus Mohamed has called on the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) to improve the pitch, so that it meets the required standards for national and international matches.
"Following the recent FA Cup match, we are deeply dissatisfied with the state of the National Stadium pitch," he said.
The pitch showed signs of wear, including patches near the corner flags, along the stands and within the penalty boxes.
"Although the pitch is playable, it does not meet the necessary standards and could potentially lead to player injuries."
Firdaus said FAM will discuss the pitch issue with MSC tomorrow.
