MCA eyes Chinese investors, launches Penang's One Belt and Road Centre

GEORGE TOWN: MCA today launched Penang's 'One Belt and Road Centre' (OBRC) in a bid to attract Chinese investors to the state.

Its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the move is a clear example of the party's commitment in improving the nation's economic growth, specifically in Penang.

"With the establishment of OBRC nationwide, we are on the right track. Soon, Malaysia will become a logistic hub for the Asean region," he said during the launching ceremony held at Vistana Hotel, Jalan Bukit Gambir here this morning.

Penang's OBRC will be headed by MCA's PRC Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Koay Kar Huah while Datuk Loo Khay Thye and Datuk Tan Lee Huat will serve as deputy and secretary respectively.

The centre will operate at state MCA's headquarters in Jalan Transfer here.

Liow said OBRC will serve as a 'match-making' mediator between the local businesses and the projects in China through an advisory panel consisting Penang’s business leaders and entrepreneurs who have vast experience in investing in China.

He said that a mobile unit van will also be deployed to inform the people at rural areas in the form of public talks and forums on the establishment of OBRC.
