KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun ends her tenure as senator today and with that, her term as Deputy Women, Family and Community Develop¬ment Minister – but in spite of stepping down from both high-profile roles, she vows to continue serving the community through the MCA.
Chew said that starting tomorrow, she will focus her efforts on community service and child welfare issues in her roles as chairman of the MCA’s Social Development Committee, principal of the MCA’s School of Political Studies, and chairman of the Blossom Arts Festival Malaysia 2017.
“I will be focusing on these three portfolios and continue to contribute to the party and the community. The end of my senatorship does not stop me from (carrying out) the party’s responsibilities and tasks,” she told the New Straits Times.
Chew added that if she were given a chance to contest in the next general election on a BN ticket, she would focus on preparing for that.
“In fact, I started getting in touch with the community by offering services to them three years ago.
“I have been providing different types of community services to individuals of different cultures and ethnic groups.
“The services include providing healthcare and basic necessities to the needy, as well as community development programmes for, among others, the (Orang Asli) and underprivileged groups,” she added.
