KUALA LUMPUR: DAP should stop crying sabotage and admit that the party has mismanaged projects in Penang, said Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
He said state Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also Penang DAP chairman, should stop accusing Gerakan of trying to sabotage the Penang Tunnel and three main road projects in the state.
"We would like to remind DAP that none of the three roads had started construction yet.
"This is despite the original project schedule stating that construction should have begun in early 2015, with at least one of the roads to be ready by end of this year, followed by a second road the following year.
"The Penang government has officially stated that the construction of the first road will only start "sometime in the middle of next year", a delay of three and a half years despite hundreds of millions already paid," said Lau in a statement today.
Lau pointed out that there was "nothing to sabotage" since no construction has commenced.
He said if there was any element of sabotage, it would have been by DAP themselves due to the long delay and ridiculously high payments being made.
Lau also challenged Chow to explain why the 10km Teluk Bahang to Tanjung Bungah road is costing RM120mil in consultancy fees when the construction cost is only RM377mil.
"The consultancy fees for the Penang Tunnel is at RM96 million.
"It does not make sense that the feasibility and design fees for a simple road is costing RM25mil more than the fees for a vastly more complicated undersea tunnel that cost 10 times the cost of the road,” he said.
Gerakan’s legal bureau was studying on filing an injunction to put a stop to the Penang undersea tunnel project and the three road projects.
Chow had since denied that the Penang state government has grossly overpaid the consulting fees for the three paired roads project, a component of the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel.
