Opposition's show no solid consensus, PM candidate not realistic

ALOR STAR: Pakatan Harapan’s failure to provide a realistic candidate as prime minister indicates that the coalition has yet to establish a solid consensus.

Kedah Ummo Youth chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin pointed out that chances of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim becoming the next prime minister, should the coalition win in the next election, is very slim, considering the latter would still be behind bar by then.

He said the Pakatan Harapan’s move of creating the ‘transit’ prime minister proved that its components were still having doubts and political uncertainties towards each other.

“Pakatan Harapan is supposed to come out with a convincing alternative shadow cabinet which can deliver top notch services to the people but they are not portraying a stable and efficient government at all.

“If we look at other countries, the opposition parties would have prepared the list of not only the interim prime minister candidate, but also the ministers together with their respective portfolio by now.

“However, in Malaysia, the Opposition pact is still at the stage of discussing seat allocations which has yet to be resolved,” he said in a statement here today.

Shaiful was also confident that the Pakatan Harapan’s new structure will collapse due to the “mess” that would be brought by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family.

He said the Kedah Umno Youth believed that Mahathir’s desperation is to the extent that he is willing to make U-turns, leading to the downfall for the Opposition’s new leadership structure.

From the announcement of the prime minister candidate, Kedah Umno Youth concluded that DAP remained the most powerful and influential ‘broker’ in Pakatan Harapan and the decision to name Anwar as the coalition president and Mahathir as the chairman was aimed at winning political confidence in the next election.
