DAP wields exact power within Pakatan Harapan: Annuar Musa

PETALING JAYA: The current reality of the political sphere today is an all-out battle between Umno-led Barisan Nasional and a DAP-led opposition, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today.

The Umno information chief said underneath the veil of unity projected by Pakatan Harapan components – PKR, Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) – are at the mercy of DAP.

"This is quite clear. They try to make it seem like a consensus, but at the end of the day, it is DAP who wields the exact power within Pakatan Harapan," said Annuar.

He was speaking on TV3's Soal Jawab talkshow, where he deliberated on Umno's preparedness ahead of the 14th general elections.

"It is clear even in Selangor, where it seems like PKR holds office, but when it came to issues like the beer festival and others, PKR could not make a stand," said Annuar.

"Why? Because they are under DAP's control. The same as when it came to the hudud, the other components could not make a strong stand because it is DAP, which controls the opposition."

He said DAP's slant towards socialism and equality was a threat to the traditions of the country and that of Malay rights.

"This was always evident in their history. DAP was formed out of the People's Progressive Party (PAP), which practised socialist values and brought about the racial disunity that eventually resulted in Singapore breaking away from Malaysia," said Annuar.

"When they were gone, DAP rose in their place to preach that brand of politics."

On that note, he said Umno was the only political party in the country that was not formed out of vengeance or rebellion.

"PKR was formed after there were those who were sacked from the government, and Amanah by those defeated in the Pas elections. PPBM again, composed of those who were kicked out of Umno. "We are not like that. Umno was formed due to the spirit of the struggle we faced and the need to uphold religion in the quest for independence," said Annuar.
