Rahman Dahlan lines up lawsuit against Rafizi over 'nepotism' claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan plans to take legal action against PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli over the latter’s slanderous accusations against him,

Rahman said he has appointed Datuk M. Reza Hassan of Messrs Raja Riza and Associate as his legal counsel.

“Rafizi had organised a press conference on Monday and accused me of appointing my ‘brother’ as the main contractor of the Expo Negaraku project.

“He confidently asserted that he had undertaken thorough research and various investigations, the result of which proved that Raslan Dahlan, who is the chief executive officer of PICO Integrated Exhibit Sdn Bhd, was indeed my ‘brother’.

“Therefore, I have been accused of nepotism in discharging my ministerial duties by appointing my family member to benefit from the project,” said Rahman in a statement today.

Rahman said, like countless other statements by Rafizi, this was another blatant lie that does not suit to his (Rafizi’s) position as a member of parliament.

Rahman said he was aggrieved by the fact that Rafizi had accused Economic Planning Unit (EPU) officers of leaking incorrect information in an attempt to create conflict.

“He was self-assured and buoyant when making these allegations. After repeating (the allegations) nine times, Rafizi must have believed his own lies.

“On that same day, I had to make a quick response to his allegation, because anyone could have been easily convinced by his lies. I also have evidence that Rafizi had contacted Raslan immediately after his press conference, via Facebook message, asking whether he was actually my brother.

“This shows that Rafizi was unsure of the facts. Nonetheless, for the sake of his political ambitions he went on to defame me,” he said.
