KUALA LUMPUR: Three days after being named Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for prime minister, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will visit jailed PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Dr Mahathir will visit Anwar tomorrow at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital where his one-time deputy is currently recuperating after suffering an injury in November, according to a media invitation sent to the media earlier this evening.
It is not known what the meeting will be about, though speculation is rife that it could be to smoothen things with Anwar, considering Dr Mahathir has come in for criticism from PKR members who objected to his being chosen as Pakatan prime ministerial candidate.
Selangor PKR had earlier objected to the decision at Sunday’s Pakatan Harapan convention to name Dr Mahathir as candidate for prime minister should the opposition pact win the coming general election, while PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin had insisted that he only be appointed “senior minister”.
Earlier today, Negri Sembilan PKR leaders followed the example of their Selangor counterparts, saying they favoured party deputy president and Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Pakatan Harapan leaders have also been criticised for choosing their once sworn political enemy as prime ministerial candidate.
