KUANTAN: Pakatan Harapan is urging those behind the #SpoiltVote or #UndiRosak campaign to accept Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister candidate because he is the best man to implement reforms.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said Dr Mahathir is the best man for the job due to his 22 years experience as the prime minister of Malaysia.
"He has been PM (prime minister) for 22 years. He knows how the system works and is the best person to help implement institutional reforms," she said.
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, was commenting on the recent campaign being bandied about by certain quarters on social media.
The #SpoiltVote, #UndiRosak and #ProtesPRU campaign slogans, which went viral online, advocated for young voters to intentionally spoil their ballots during the upcoming polls.
The campaign seeks this on allegation that there was no difference between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan.
Among the reason behind the movement is disagreement with Pakatan Harapan's decision to choose Dr Mahathir as prime minister candidate in the event that the opposition coalition wins the 14th General Election (GE14).
She urged those behind the campaign to accept the prime minister candidacy of Dr Mahathir, who is also chairman of both Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
"If this is about feelings, we must move on. It is for the future of the nation," she said.
She was referring to those behind the movement who is still angry with Dr Mahathir for various controversies that purportedly occurred during his tenure.
Dr Wan Azizah also dismissed the #UndiRosak movement as playing no significant role in influencing voters in GE14.
"This is because Malaysians (on a whole) desires change," she said.
She pointed out that only a very small portion of the electorate is involved in the movement such as former PKR man and political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegubard.
